A few weeks ago, I sat with my brother from another mother, Kenny Robertson, to record Episode 2 of the Curiosity Offensive podcast. Kenny served 22 years as a US Army Green Beret from the 5th Special Forces Group (A). He is the founder of Mission Medics, his training company dedicated to preparing civilians for real-life emergency scenarios using Special Forces Medic basics.
Kenny just returned from his humanitarian work in Ukraine, training Ukraining Army soldiers and fellow medics on the U.S. Special Forces combat medic protocol. His work in Ukraine was recently featured on ABC World News Tonight and Good Morning America.

What I found most profound about my conversation with Kenny is that, as an American special operator, while in Ukraine in a humanitarian capacity (rather than a warfighting capacity), one of his starkest revelations was that he was the insurgent now. He continually thought: let’s call for back-up, and then realized there was no backup. No Apache helicopters or Chinooks with a team of Rangers was on its way. He was on his own, with his own team, and the Russians owned the skies.
